The staff at Nevis Range had not fully realised how the business would benefit from Satellite Broadband until they really started putting it through its paces.
The marketing department were the first to appreciate the fast internet connection as it enables them to send and receive large emails with images attached which was previously impossible on a dial up connection. As staff become used to the ‘always on’ broadband service they’re becoming increasingly aware of the way it has changed the way they work.
Now all PC’s on the network regularly receive Windows updates and the latest virus software updates. All critical company data is backed up using an online back up service which takes the worry out of insuring the tape backups are run correctly and removed from site on a daily basis.
All of this means that the Nevis Range network is secure from the outside world and protected from virus attacks; if anything were to happen to the data on the network it can now be automatically restored at the click of a button.
Half way up the mountain, Nevis Range has a restaurant and bar, shops, and a Mountain Discovery Centre. A high-speed wireless link connects the sites one mile apart; this enables to manage the Snow Goose restaurant and Ski Centre much more effectively as they now have network access to information held at the head office; they can coordinate activities sharing information between customers and colleagues within Nevis Range.
The benefits have not stopped there; the next step is to introduce a VOIP service which will mean massive savings on telephone charges. A billing system linking the head office, shops, bar and restaurant will then be installed which will mean Nevis Range can manage stock much more efficiently and sell many more products.
