Mellerstain House is the foremost of Scotland’s Georgian Mansions.

Avonline were asked to provide Broadband Internet access to the entire estate. Now Lord Haddington and his family, the Estate Office, the Mellerstain Trust and Cobweb Design benefit from fast Internet access from each of their separate offices on the estate.

We challenge anybody who now visits the estate to spot that we were ever there. Talk to any of the businesses using the service and they will tell you that they cannot imagine how they managed to conduct business online using an old 56k dial up connection.

Avonline’s distributed high speed broadband package allows individual businesses and private tenants to share the connection dependent upon their needs.

Avonline discretely installed the Sat1000 service (offering speeds 20 times as fast as a standard modem) on the main house and then used long range IEEE 802.11b/g compliant wireless access points to share the connection between the businesses on the estate.

Prior to the upgrade Lord Haddington would spend up to four hours downloading a piece of software, now the same downloads take as little as 5 minutes.

The Haddington Estate Office is responsible for the management of the entire estate. One major aspect of this is managing livestock. The Cattle Tracing System was introduced by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to safeguard human and animal health, assisting control of farming subsidies, and improve the industries commercial performance. To make the system more efficient all applications and cattle movements can be tracked online. For these reasons, added to the fact the vast majority of correspondence is carried out via email, installing Broadband has meant that everything runs far more efficiently.

The Mellerstain Trust runs the 18th Century Georgian mansion as a visitor attraction. They host a variety of corporate events, board and management meetings, private parties and weddings. The Trust is now able to publish details of upcoming events on the website, they can organise events and meetings and respond to queries from the public knowing that their internet connection is always available.

Cobweb Design is an arts and crafts business offering a wide range of embroidery kits, exciting Celtic and ethnic themes. They also provide a design service to shops involved in the museum, stately home and giftware market. A high speed Internet connection means that they will now be able to promote and sell many more of their product range online; updating previous visitors to Haddington Estate with new product ranges and special offers using a simple email contact form.
